It Could Be Much Worse : You Could Be Sitting on that Chair

image

Most of us have it so good that it's easy to forget how much worse other people have it. Before we try to make our lot even better, let's all just take a moment to appreciate how good we have it, already.

Counting Our Blessings

There's nothing so bad that it couldn't be worse.

Irish Proverb

  • You were born. That's a miracle right there when you just consider the odds.
  • You're STILL alive (random guess).
  • Most of your five senses probably work, at least to a certain degree. You can probably enjoy a sunset, or good music, or a massage, or the smell of the wind on a rainy day or a steamy bowl of oatmeal.
  • If you're reading this, you're quite probably not currently starving to death. That's more than quite a few people can say.
  • You probably have at least one person in your life who would be less than thrilled if you croaked.
  • You have access, for free, to the BIGGEST STORE OF KNOWLEDGE the world has ever known (i.e. the internet). Even if you can't access it from your home, you can probably access it for free at a public library. (EDIT : 2020-05-09 : "Public library"? Written before the Rona. Sorry 'bout that.)
  • If you're reading this, you can probably afford 20$ to buy a used android smartphone on ebay or craigslist. You can use free email and apps (EDIT : 2020-05-09 : a.k.a. "spy apps", but I digress) to talk or write to anyone on the planet instantly and FOR FREE. Think about this for a sec... this can't be considered as anything but magic, by any stretch of the imagination.
  • If you're reading this, odds are that you are probably not currently freezing to death. You probably also have access to cold and HOT water, ON TAP!
  • You've probably been helped along the way by many people. Sure, you met quite a few ass-holes too but there must have been at least one nice person somewhere along the way?
  • Surely, if you allow yourself a few minutes extra, you can come up with thousands of other things you can be grateful for.
